Centre of the city of Korça blueprint / Bolles + Wilson

German Architects Bolles + Wilson has shared with us their winning proposal for in Albania Korca City Centre plan competition. More pictures and description of the architect after the break.

Surrounded by spectacular mountains and Valley wide arcadian Korça focuses an area of 360,000 inhabitants. His courteous morphology reflects the richness and the ambitions of emigrants to return. Many villas Novecento and Art Nouveau style are now restored.The purpose of the competition was to find a concept that integrates traffic and rational pedestrians with qualitative needs and the development of city - a commercial strategy providing for administrative installations and framework development résidentiel.Le short competition also stressed that the magnitude of the new Korça must be respectful and appropriate historic scale.

BOLLES + WILSON has identified five areas of revitalization of the downtown 197 000 m2. Each area having its own unique character, together they add up to a network of courteous public spaces. At one end of the center of the Cathedral of "Resurrection of Christ" anchors at the other end that a commercial anchor is added. "These are connected by Boulevard Shën Gjergji - a ' cultural promenade". Reduction of the widths of expansive Communist road allows an extension to the Cathedral square.This place is planned in three phases over the street and framed by coffee pergolas.Un large stage to the left of the Cathedral and a step more RIGHTWARDS facilitate events.
